Legacy Leadership Academy is a brand new private school opening in September for the 2013-2014 school year! Legacy is poised to take education in a new direction! We offer an alternative to the traditional “one-size-fits-all” education model. Personalized, individual education is the foundation for our model.
Legacy is composed of a team of three administrators who teach. These teachers have a range of specializations and experience within education including: Educational Administration, Gifted/Talented Education, Special Education, Montessori methods, Urban Education, and Private School Education. Their combined classroom experience totals 35 years.
The Problem
The standard one-size-fits-all education model is simply not working for many of today's students. These students are being left behind by standardized testing and curricula. In the midst of this standardization, many of these students are losing their spark. Too many divergent thinkers are getting lost in an educational world which values convergent thinking.
The Solution
Leslie Clark, Jenny Garza and Amber Thomas, the three founders of Legacy, came together and realized they had a common vision for educating students. This vision took shape over several years, and, after extensive research, was fine-tuned into the plan that is Legacy Leadership Academy.
Legacy will offer personalized Individual Learning Plans for each student. All students will be taught on their individual skill level, not an arbitrary grade level. Traditional number and letter grades will not be issued; rather student progress will be evaluated, measured and recorded in a narrative form. Project-based learning as well as individual skill instruction will be utilized. Our enrollment will be limited to 45 students in order to ensure maximum time with each student.
An emphasis will be placed on the Arts and Divergent Thinking daily. A large block of time in the afternoon will be devoted to these areas. Students will take weekly field trips, both off-campus and virtual, to broaden student horizons and emphasize learning through the real world.
Legacy has a vast outdoor space which will be utilized throughout the day as much as possible.
Current Status
Enrollment will be kept small, and as such, only 10 spots remain for the upcoming school year. We have already encountered several families who need this type of education model for their children, but do not have the resources to make that happen. We do not want to turn a child away who needs our services.
What are we going to do with the funds?
Legacy Leadership Academy is a private school, serving those in first through twelfth grades, which receives no public funding; we rely on tuition and donations to sustain our program. We are committed to working with every family who wants to work with us, which will often require tuition reductions. Your donations will help us meet our commitment to help any child, regardless of family finances, leave unhappy or ill-fitting situations in their previous school setting and become self-directed learners at Legacy Leadership Academy.
We're just getting off the ground. With your help, we can...
- provide necessary fee reductions to fulfill our mission of working with every family who wants to work with us
- lease a location and cover related overhead
- furnish and equip the center with whatever we need and can't get through in-kind donations
- pay staff modest salaries and benefits
- conduct advertising and outreach to prospective members, volunteers, community partners, and donors
Thank you for supporting this life-changing opportunity for young people who need personalized, individual education!
